Mustafizur Rahman: The Cutter Master
Mustafizur Rahman is one of the top players of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. Currently, he is playing at the Indian Premier League (IPL) and doing very well.
Rahman’s is one of those rags to riches stories. His home village is Tetulia in Satkhira district. He was born on September 6, 1995 to Abul Qasem Gazi, and Mahmuda Khatun. Of the six siblings he was the youngest.
Mustafizur Rahman and his elder brothers loved to play cricket. His brothers participated in the village tournaments. Since childhood, Mustafizur was more interested in cricket than studying. His elder brother Moqlesur Rahaman was his role model. Initially, Mustafiz started out as a batsman but then he found out that he was very good in bowling.
Md. Muffachinul Islam Satkhira District coach Bangladesh Cricket Board ( BCB) and Altaf Hussein coached Mustafiz. When Mustafizur first came to the academy, he had no idea about bowling stance, how to maintain the bowling line, how to write players names. Md. Muffachinul Islam supported him.
Mustafizur Rahman was very hard working. Every day he crossed more than 40 kilometer of roads to reach Satkhira to practice cricket. He had no shoes for playing. With the support of his coach he overcame all the obstacles and became a skilled bowler.
In 2012, Mustafizur Rahaman came to Dhaka to try out for a fast-bowlers camp. Earlier, he played in an Under-17 tournament in his hometown. He got admission at the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s foundation of fast bowling. Soon he was selected for the Bangladesh Under-19 team to play at the 2014 Under 19 World Cup in UAE. There he collected 8 wickets. Mustafizur Rahaman started his first-class and list-A cricket since 2014, representing Khulna Division and Abahoni Limited, respectively. He was picked for Bangladesh A’s tour of West Indies.
He also represented Dhaka Dynamites in the 2015 Bangladesh Premier League. Currently, he is playing for the Sunrises Hyderabad at the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mustafizur Rahaman is a left-arm medium fast bowler. He got success in the beginning of his International Career by bowling action off cutters, a type of bowling where the bowler swings the ball away. With this he could take out many Batsmen. Mr. Rahaman stated that he first discovered the techniques after his fellow cricketer, Anamul Haque Bijoy insisted him to bowl a slower delivery.
Mustafizur always tries to discover his best performances. He is a fan of Pakistani cricketer Md. Amir. He took the most wickets (13) in his debut ODI series. He is the first player to win ‘Man of the Match’ award on both tests as well as ODI debuts. Mustafizur made his international cricket debut in April 2015. Later that year he played his first ODI and Test Matches against India and South Africa.
